Location Categories

Overview

A Location Category is a grouping mechanism, used to organize Places into a category.

Access

To access the Location Categories screen, select Data from the Main Navigation Menu, then select Locations > Location Categories from the Sub-Category menu.

The Location Categories screen provides a variety of options for searching for Location Categories.

Search

The search feature allows you to search for a specified text string anywhere within the Location Category display name or internal name.

  1. Optionally, in the search field near the top of the Location Categories screen, enter the desired text string.

  2. Press Enter, or click the search button (magnifying glass icon).

  3. The Location Categories screen is refreshed to show only the Location Categories that meet your search criteria.

  4. To remove all search criteria, click the remove button ("X" icon).

Sort

The "Sort" drop-down menu allows you to sort the Location Categories on a variety of different fields. To sort the list of Location Categories, select the desired sort option from this menu.

  • Location Category ID (default)

  • Name

  • Created Date

  • Updated Date

 

 

 Create a New Location Category

To create a new Location Category:

  1. Enter the Display Name value for the new Location Category.

  2. Click create to display the "Edit Location Category" pop-up window.

  3. The "Display Name" field is populated with the value you entered above; optionally edit this value.

  4. The Internal Name is automatically populated based on the Display Name value. This field is uneditable by default. To edit the Internal Name, check edit internal name. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click ok. Edit the Internal Name value.

  5. Optionally, to assign an image to this Location Category, click choose file, then browse to and select the desired image file.

  6. Optionally, enter a description of the Location Category in the "Description" field.

  7. If this Location Category is for internal use only, check "Internal."

  8. Click create.  

 

 

 View or Edit a Location Category

To view or edit the details of a Location Category:

  1. Search, sort, or filter the Location Categories screen as described above.

  2. Click on the desired Location Category record. The "Edit Location Category" pop-up window is displayed.

  3. Make any necessary changes to the Location Category properties.

  4. Click save.

 

 

 Delete a Location Category

To delete a Location Category:

  1. Search, sort, or filter the Location Categories screen as described above.

  2. Click on the desired Location Category record. The "Edit Location Category" pop-up window is displayed.

  3. Click delete.

  4. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click confirm.
